Search ignores numbers
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Author: richholton

Description:
Search seems to ignore all numbers. For instance, searching for
2005
will return no matches. Searching for
"The Ring" 1927
will return the same list as searching for
"The Ring"

It may be understandable to ignore single- or two-digit numbers, but it seems
that 4-digit and above should be indexed (I could go either way with 3-digit
numbers).

This is on en:Wikipedia, the Lucene search. I don't know if this is also true of
the other searches.

Suggest that this seems to be duplicate of Bug 42, or perhaps vice-versa.

Hi,
I have just transferred over a hundred lab procedures in our new wiki (media
wiki 1.6.5). However I've just noticed that text searches don't include numbers.
So we can't look up dates, versions and other strings that may contain numbers
(ex: 3D, Nad83, NTV2...). This bug is severe limitations to our lab wiki. Is
there a work around out there? Will this be fixed in a future wiki version?

Fixed in Lucene Search 2, numbers are now being indexed.

[Merging "MediaWiki extensions/Lucene Search" into "Wikimedia/lucene-search2", see bug 46542. You can filter bugmail for: search-component-merge-20130326 ]
