Capacity to hide bot modifications in the watchlist
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Author: wikipedia

Description:
It should be possible to hide bot modifications in the watchlist in the same way
it is possible to do it in "recent change". This will allow to track user
modification when bot are doing a lot of modifications. This feature is really
importante if you have a lot of pages in your watchlist.

A patch to disable the showing of bots (for those with botflags)

We talked about it already. Basicly hiding bots from watchlist
means that they less and less people would check at their
modification.

Can you point to an international decision on this point?

I agree with Ashar Voultoiz, I think any modification should be reported on the
watchlist

also, bots aren't perfect si there's always a possibility that they mess up an
article

Hallo!

Brion marked this bug as WONTFIX May 2005. However as I remember Tim Starling
recently modified the code and the [[MediaWiki:Wlhideshowbots]] messages is
already available.

The only missing issue is to provide a way to integrate 'wlhideshowbots' in the
/ a relevant other Mediawiki message similar as / can be '$5' is integrated in
[[MediaWiki:Showhideminor]].

Reading the comments from above I assume that the defaut value for 'show'/'hide'
should be 'show' bot edits.

best regards reinhardt [[user:gangleri]]

Leaving as 'WONTFIX'. Please REOPEN if this is still a requirement.

This problem often popups in the discussion on :fr.

My idea (though I'd prefer a bot mask as in the RC) :

You could split the watchlist in two parts :

  • normal contributors
  • bots

Just separate the list for each day into two sections, this could be defined
inside the preferences. The bots would still be visible but would not mess up
with the normal list
