Separate namespace for citing sources of material added to articles on English Wikipedia
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Author: bugzillas+padREMOVETHISdu

Description:
The idea was originally proposed by User:Fredrik in the Village pump. The
entire thread of discussion can be accessed at the supplied URL.

The proposal is to have a separate page associated with each article which can
be used to cite sources from which material was added to the article.

If not for wikipedia, I presume this would be useful for projects like
wikibooks, at least.

BTW does this block bug 423?

Oops! Forgot to add the important thing.

There'll be a separate namespace called References: and for each page Foo,
we'd have a link to Cite sources next to the link to [[
Talk:Foo | Discuss this page ]]. Of course, there may be articles for which the
references page doesn't exist (just like the talk page need not always exist).

Probably we don't need "<Project> References:", "Template References:", and
other such namespaces.

The problem would be that sometimes the References: page is "tied to" the
article, just like the talk page is. e.g. while moving a page, the references
page should also be moved if possible, just like talk pages are.

Is this still an active idea? If not, recommend closing out as WONTFIX.
